Privacy by Design: Using Synthetic Data to Bypass GDPR Bottlenecks
Waiting 3 months for compliance approval to access data? Synthetic Data gives developers high-quality, privacy-safe test data instantly.
In banking and healthcare, data is locked down. Developers often have to write code blindly because they aren’t allowed to see the production database. This leads to bugs and slow delivery.
Synthetic Data is the answer.
What is it?
Synthetic data is artificially generated data that preserves the statistical properties of the original dataset but contains no real individuals.
- Real Data: “John Smith, London, £50,000 salary.”
- Synthetic Data: “Jane Doe, Manchester, £48,000 salary.” The names are fake. The locations are fake. But the correlation between Location and Salary remains accurate.
How we build it (GANs and VAEs)
We use Generative AI models (GANs or Variational Autoencoders) to learn the “shape” of your data. The model learns that “People in London tend to have higher salaries.” It then generates new rows that follow these rules.
The GDPR Loophole
Because Synthetic Data does not relate to any real person, it is outside the scope of GDPR. You can share it freely with external contractors, cloud environments, or researchers without needing consent forms.
